All the buzz

So day 3 as a community organizer is going well. It's off to a slow start, but that's to be expected. I anticipate next week things will pick up as I start having meeting with community members. For the time being, I'm busying myself with background research on the current fight around health care in the Lakeview neighborhood.

Things in the house are good. I love our location on Clark Street in Andersonville and I really enjoy living with my housemates. It is fun to always have people around. This is what I missed as an RA.

In any event, though I didn't hear Sarah Palin's speech last night, the progressive e-mail networks made it clear that she discredited the role and responsibilities of a community organizer. It was exciting and inspiring to read e-mail after e-mail about the important work of organizers, particularly because I am new to the field. Elana Wolowitz, of Wellstone Action, wrote a short response to Palin outlining the work and responsibilities of organizers. I thought I'd share that with you here in order to give you a better sense of the work I'll be doing this year.

Tomorrow is Friday. Hooray!

Over and out.
